3 Steps to social media elegance

Every single day when I get online I am absolutely shocked by the things that women are sharing on social media.

So much so that I think it is time to have a proper discussion on how to become more elegant and elevated online.

Based upon what I see online all the time, I’m noticing that when it comes to telling it all on the internet, women simply do not know where to draw the line.

I always used to hear that social media was the highlight reel of people’s lives and that everyone would only show the positives. I believe that was true for the first 8-10 years of the rise of social media.

Now people are craving real connection and building authentic relationships. People are now sharing the nitty gritty details of their lives and some of it is downright horrific.

Now that it is 2023, we have more social media platforms than ever and it is now more important than ever to learn how to navigate social media with class.

Why is it important to have an elegant social media presence?

If you find your way to my blog, you are probably interested in leveling up and becoming the highest version of yourself.

In these times we are living in, we now have 2 identities. The identity we carry in real life, and our social identity.

As a classy lady, you are responsible for acting with grace in both situations.

There are 3 major reasons why you should be more intentional about what you are sharing on social media.

Everyone is online

When I was younger and myspace was the most popular platform, it was only younger people who spent time on social media.

Now nearly everyone has at least one social media platform. Your mother, your grandparents, your children, your boss. And millions of people you don’t know.

I think perhaps one of the reasons that I am so surprised by the things I see on social media is I always wonder about the women who share this content…do they realize or care that anyone and everyone has access to this?

Your social media is a direct reflection of you.

And when a stranger is online and stumbles across your profile, even if it is private and they can see your bio…what do you want people to think about you?

I know that If I’m looking someone up on social media, I’m going to make assumptions based on what I see on their page. I’m automatically going to come to conclusions about the person they are based on their social media posts.

Social media is forever.

I see this all the time with celebrities who are getting canceled in the present day based on things that they shared online many years ago.

Everything that you post can be shared and screenshotted before you decide to delete it. And once it’s out there, it might not ever go away.

I think people have become so desensitized by the world of social media that nobody is cautions anymore.

Here are 3 ways to become classy on social media:

Create an elegant social media presence

Social media elegance is perhaps the easiest first step you can take on your elegance journey.

While becoming classy in real life requires a lot more changing of habits and practicing becoming a new you, social media is easier to navigate because you can literally create any kind of persona you want online.

Conduct yourself with grace

Once you have laid the foundation for an elegant presence online, you will have to maintain this presence even on your worst days. You must continue to carry yourself a certain way in the digital world the same way you would in the real world.

Be elegant when it comes to what you are sharing online.

I’m not saying that you can’t share anything, but there are a lot of things that I see online every single day that I would never, ever share on social media.

People who are not your close family and friends don’t need to know such detailed information about you and your life.

I used to be the person who overshared online. I posted photos of my kids every day, talked about politics a lot and always had something to say online.

Now I barely post and when I do I am very intentional about the things that I share online.

My social media presence is much more elevated than it was in the past and I’m quite pleased with it.
