How to make a stunning bouquet from $30 of grocery store flowers.

I think by now everyone who is a regular reader of my blog knows that I am addicted to flowers. I love flowers so much. I love to smell, photograph, arrange, plant, and care for flowers.

I also love flower bouquets. I always wondered what it would be like to be to afford those expensive flower bouquets and arrangements from the florist… Until I realized that I could easily make them myself.

Red roses are my favorite flower, and every Sunday I go to the supermarket to purchase a half dozen fresh red roses. I put a rose in my bathroom, one in my kitchen, and the rest in my bedroom. They make me very happy.

I was so focused on the red roses that I never really entertained purchasing other types of flowers. This year though, I lived a very enchanted Spring, and I decided to start working with other types of flowers.

Finding inspiration

There are countless options of flowers, so I decided to look online for some color schemes and ideas for what I wanted my bouquet to look like. I found so many beautiful bouquet ideas online and it made it easy for me to get started on my bouquet.

Finding the flowers and supplies

There are many different grocery stores near me that sell flowers, so I didn’t have a problem finding the flowers that I needed. I did need to go to 3 different grocery stores before I found the right ones. This was a bit time consuming and I did a lot of driving around town before I found the exact flowers that I wanted to use.

Even though I went to the same grocery store in different locations, each grocery store has a different florist and they are the ones in charge of ordering flowers. That means that there are different flowers at each store.

Prepping the flowers

I watched a lot of videos on YouTube about how to prep your flowers. The way I do it is to put flowers into a large vase or bucket along with the flower food and wait overnight for the flowers to come to life.

The next day I removed all of the leaves from the stems that would sit below the waterline in the vase. Foliage from the flower will introduce bacteria into the water and decrease the lifespan of your flowers.

Find the perfect vase

I normally just use a plain glass vase that I got from the thrift store. It is important to find a vase that isn’t too small. If you are using flowers with thicker stems, like hydrangeas, they will naturally need a bigger vase

Arrange.

I simply start by putting a stem or two in my hands and then adding flowers around it, arranging the flowers in my hand until I am happy with the pattern and how the bouquet is looking. Arranging flowers is definitely something you want to play around with, as it can take a minute or two to make it just right.

Final thoughts

Floral arrangements are incredibly fun to create and make for a beautiful addition to your home or a great gift. I encourage you to take some time this spring trying out different bouquets.
