How to create a vision board

Oh hi there! If you are new here, my name is Victoria and I talk about everything relating to Modern Elegance and Personal growth for women. Today I’m going to talk about vision boards. Creating a vision board has helped me change my life in so many ways. I’ll explain what a vision board is, how to create one, and how to use it!

Well it’s that time of year again and I can’t believe it! The end of 2024.

I love the end of the year. It’s a time to reflect and assess what I have and haven’t accomplished in the past 365 days. It’s a time to question if I was happy, what I could have done to make things better, what I regret not doing, and gathering information so I can fine tune my life in the upcoming year.

Normally, I would just write down my goals. I mean, that’s what I’ve been doing for decades. When I started seeing vision boards all over the web, I didn’t pay them any attention.

Why should I? Writing down my goals works just fine for me. That’s what I thought.

But I like to try new things and I saw people have major success with their vision boards, and I read that women often get together for vision board parties. It must be a thing. Something I should try.

And so I did. And the result? Mind blowing. I accomplished things that I didn’t really think I could and I owe it all to the day that I created my first vision board.

What is a vision board?

A vision board is simply a collage of photographs of the things that you want to achieve in the future. Could be things in the very near future, maybe a 5-year plan, or a specific board like a wedding vision board of a dream home vision board. This collage is displayed somewhere you will see it all the time which helps you maintain your focus on your ultimate goal.

What is the purpose of a vision board?

The difference between a hand-written goals list and a vision board is using images to visualize your dreams until they become a reality. Vision boards help use the Law of Attraction to bring your dreams to life.

By having images of your goals, you are able to visualize exactly what you want to attract. Visualization trains the brain that it is possible to have these things, and with a little bit of work you are able to attract your dreams and goals.

How to create a vision board.

Step 1: Question yourself.

  • What would improve the long-term quality of your life?
  • What would bring you happiness?
  • How do you want to feel once these things are achieved?
  • What is the time frame you want to accomplish these goals?
  • Are you creating a board for a specific goal like vacation, or wedding?

Step 2: Find inspiration!

Search the web and find the best images that represent your goals. At least 10-15 but I always say that you should never limit the number of dreams that you have.

Step 3: Create!

There are two different types of vision boards. A physical board is often made of magazine clippings, printed images, quotes, all put together on poster board. These are very fun to make, but I do sometimes find it hard to locate all the images that I want to use in my vision board.

If you are creating a physical vision board, I suggest gathering all of your photos from the web and printing them. If you don’t have a printer, you can access one at your library. I sometimes use the library if I want higher quality printing than the printer I have at home.

The other type is a digital vision board. I always make mine digital. And, in my opinion, the digital vision board is much easier to make. It can also be printed out and glued onto a board too.

To create a digital vision board, just save photos into your photo gallery and then use an app to create a collage. It’s the easiest thing in the world.

How to use your Vision Board.

Keep your board in a place where you will see it on a daily basis. You basically want to program these desires into your subconscious mind. It works, I promise!

I like to keep my vision board as the lock screen on my phone so that I see it every single day, multiple times a day. This way, my goals are being subconsciously programmed into my mind.

Another great place to put a vision board is as your computer desktop. You can also print your digital vision board and put it on your wall. Just make sure you are seeing your vision board every day. It will keep you motivated to work towards your dreams.

Use your board to write affirmations. If you want to buy a house in 2021 and you have it on your vision board, you can write affirmations like:

  • I just bought my first house.
  • It feels incredible to be a homeowner.
  • Buying a house was the easiest thing I’ve ever done.
  • The universe has the perfect house waiting for me.

Do quarterly check-ins to make sure you are reaching your goals. One of the biggest reasons why some people don’t stick to their goals is because they aren’t checking in with themselves regularly throughout the year.

A lot can change in a year, so your goals might need editing as the year goes on. You also should be keeping yourself accountable with the goals that you create.

Final thoughts

A vision board is a great way to get creative while planning your life for the next year. You are more likely to achieve your goals by creating one, and it gives you lots of motivation to create a better life.
