20 Addicting summer reads

Are you ready to spend your time lounging by the pool or on the beach? Have a flight coming up and you want something that is bursting with summer vibes?

I am obsessed with reading and I put together a list of 20 books that you won’t be able to put down this summer!

1.Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch

It has been a couple of years since I read this so let me try and describe it to you from what I remember. This is a fun Y.A. book about Lina, a teenage girl who takes a trip to Italy because her mother is dying. Her last wish is for Lina to get to know her dad. Lina goes to Italy and finds a journal that belonged to her mother and decided to have the same adventures that her mother did.

One of the reasons I loved this book is because I was able to google the places mentioned and it became an interactive reading experience because I could see exactly where the scenes were taking place.

2.Oona out of order by Margarita Montimore

I will never stop recommending this book. It was fun, unique and fast. Oona lives her life non chronologically. Each year on New Years, she ‘leaps’ to a different year of her life. She could be 27 one year, and 33 the next. It follows the issues she faces living her life that way and it’s a story that will stick with me forever. I think it should be a NETFLIX show.

3.Done & Dusted Lyla Sage *18+

Lyla Sage has taken the reading world by storm and for good reason. This is the first book in the Rebel Blue Ranch series. It a romance about Emmy returning home after a horse riding accident. She makes an unexpected connection with her brother’s best friend, Luke.

4.The paradise problem by Christina Lauren

I laughed out loud at this book. Christina Lauren does a fantastic job at writing books that are a lot of fun to read. This is a fake dating story about a grocery store heir and his ex who must fake a marriage to get access to a substantial inheritance.

They have to attend a fancy wedding on a private island which is the perfect setting for a summer read. It was funny and I loved it. One of the first books you should pick up if you want a fun read by the pool.

5.The Stand In by Lily Chu

I fell in love with this book the moment I saw the cover. I wasn’t sure I was going to like it so I didn’t spend the money. It appeared on one of my reading apps so I listened to it on audio.

I absolutely LOVED it! Now I wish I picked up the physical copy when I saw it at target. It is about a woman who looks a lot like a celebrity and is paid to pretend to be her sometimes, taking the pressure off of the celebrity.

The ending was amazing and something that I didn’t see coming at all. I think this book is underrated and I highly recommend.

6.Where the crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

This is one of the few books that I had to pick my jaw off the floor when I finished reading it. This book is about a girl, Kya, who grows up in the marsh and pretty much raises herself. We get to watch her life unfold and the things that happen to her over the years.

I don’t want to spoil too much because this book is something that you should go into blind. It makes the experience much better. It was made into a movie for a reason, it was an incredible story and I also must mention we get the story until she dies. I love books that follow someone’s entire life.

Please read the trigger warnings for this book.

7.Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller

I was addicted from page 1. I love Pirates of the Caribbean when I was younger and the best way to describe this book is basically if Jack Sparrow were a girl.

I think this book is severely underrated and perfect if you want to take a little adventure in your imagination by the pool or beach this summer.

8.Twisted Games by Ana Huang *18+

I’ve read a lot of romance books and this one is in the top two for my favorites of all time. Ana Huang is a master at writing amazing romances. A princess named Bridget and her bodyguard Rhys.

This book is hot and I would love to read this by the water.

9.One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle

I don’t think I appreciated this book as much while I was reading it. It was when I was finished that it all hit me. I loved this story and there was a bit of a magical element to it as well.

The story follows Katy who recently lost her mother right before they were supposed to take a trop together to the Amalfi coast and other places. Katy decides to take the trip by herself so she can feel more connected to her mother…and that’s exactly what she gets.

Loved it. Especially if you want to feel like you are in Italy.

10.She Started it by Sian Gilbert

A thriller about a bunch of ladies who were invited to a bachelorette party in Caribbean by a girl they haven’t talked to in years. What could possibly go wrong?

If you are looking for a thriller to read this summer. Start here. I always recommend this to all my friends who want a good thriller with an island/beachy setting.

I loved the ending and it was a lot of fun to read as well.

11.Big Summer by Jennifer Weiner

I read this book the first year I got back into reading. It is about two girls that used to be friends but they aren’t anymore. Until one of them reappears into the other one’s life with an invitation to spend a vacation at a mansion in cape cod. Again, what could possibly go wrong.

12.The house across the lake by Riley Sager

Perhaps my favorite book by by Riley Sager. It is about a woman who moves to the lake and begins to people watch. She quickly notices that something isn’t right at the house across the lake. She does some investigating on her own and things get more and more sinister.

I loved the ending of this because it is similar to a movie that I’d seen years ago and loved that ending as well. This does have some supernatural elements in it so it isn’t just a black and white thriller.

13.Annie Bot by Sierra Greer

Honestly I read this book in one sitting I couldn’t put it down. It doesn’t have summer vibes but I included it in this list because of how addicting it is. If you are a fan of black mirror like I am, you will love this book.

Annie is a robot who was made to please the man to purchased her. However, she becomes very advanced and starts to act and feel more and more like a human.

I simply couldn’t get enough of this book so get ready to see this in other book lists in the future because I will never stop recommending this.

14.Seven Days in June by Tia Williams

Now I didn’t absolutely love this book the way other people did but I did enjoy this book and I do think is perfect for a summer because it takes place over one week in June.

Eva and Shane are both writers who had a past together and unexpectedly ran into each other at a literary event.

The story then takes us back to the one week in June where they were madly in love with each other and what they are going to do now that they have reconnected.

15.Wildfire by Hannah Grace *18+

Summer camp. Romance. Golden retrievers. Does it get any better than this? Hannah grace entered my world when I read Icebreaker which is her other wildly popular romance novel. I knew I had to read this one and it is perfect for summer

It is about a girl who hooks up with a guy and the next day reports to work as a camp counselor. Only to find that guy also is a camp counselor and they had no idea.

It is fun, steamy, and perfect for summer.

16.The Housemaid by Freida McFadden

I don’t think this takes place in the summer but I had to add this book to the list just because of the experience I had while reading it. I couldn’t put this one down. Freida writes fast paced thrillers with short chapters that all end on a cliffhanger so that you can’t stop. It is absolutely genius in my opinion.

The twists and turns in this book were a lot of fun and this is a great thriller for any time of year.

17.Swift and saddled by Lyla Sage *18+

The second book in the Rebel Blue Ranch series, this story is about Ada, an interior designer who visits a bar and meets a man that she cannot resist.

She then shows up to work a job shortly thereafter and *surprise* it’s at his ranch. It’s a cure romance that I really enjoyed.

18.The unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

Another hilarious summer book by Christina Lauren. Olive’s twin sister manages to win an elaborate honeymoon with all expenses paid. The night of the wedding, the entire wedding party falls ill with food poisoning.

Olive was somehow unscathed and now is being asked to pose as her sister so someone can experience the all expense paid honeymoon. She also has to go with Ethan who is her mortal enemy.

It was funny and very atmospheric. So many summer vibes here.

19.Good vibes, good life. by Vex King

If you want to level up this summer and you want to read a book that is fun and easy but also packed with incredible tips for an amazing life, Good Vibes, Good Life is a must read.

This book is so good that I purchased a copy to give to my daughter on her 18th birthday because it can be used a guide to life.

20.The Seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This book was a whole experience. We are following the life of Evelyn Hugo, a famous celebrity whose life isn’t as glamorous as it looks. This book also doesn’t give off summer vibes, but I had an amazing experience reading it and I always wanted to get back to it when I had to go to work.
